Cape Coast is the capital of the Central Region, in southern Ghana. It’s known for its role in the transatlantic slave trade. Overlooking the Gulf of Guinea, Cape Coast Dungeon is a large whitewashed fort built by the Swedish in the 17th century. It was later used by the British as a holding prison for slaves. Inside, the Dungeon Museum has exhibits on pre-colonial local history, the slave trade and traditional crafts. One of the most well known parts of Cape Coast Dungeon, that you can visit today, is the “Door of No Return,” which led slaves out of the castle and onto the ships setting off on the Middle Passage. Their boat journeys could last several months, and an estimated 15 percent of slaves died aboard, en route. Somewhere around 12 millions slaves were sent from Africa, millions of whom died in the process. Cape Coast Dungeon was a way station in history’s largest, and darkest, forced human migration..

Accommodation, Food, Transportation and Other Costs
Accommodation – This tour will either be 1 or 2 days. For 2 days we will get a local Cape Coast hotel and split up the main destinations of the tour between the 2 days and have more free time to visit other sites. For 1 day tour, we will be leaving early in the morning and arriving back to our regular accommodations in the night. For 2 days Minus $100 from price, if you want to opt out of accommodations.
Food – For 2 days, we will provide breakfast and lunch on the 2nd day. We will be providing Breakfast in the morning of the 1st day to those at our tour accommodations, as per the 2 meals a day, and will be providing lunch for all participating in this destination tour. If 2 days minus $40, or if 1day minus $20 from price, if you want to opt out of food.
Transportation – Depending on the amount of people we will arrange necessary transportation. It will be a air conditioned vehicle with room for a backpack or bag. Minus $50 from price, if you want to opt out of transportation.

Suggested destination carrying money – 75-125 CAD / 200-500 GHC There are many sellers in Cape Coast, there is also a store inside the castle, with books, paintings, etc. (Note: This is a suggested budget assuming you’re not a big gift buyer. There are cheaper places to buy similar stuff in Ghana, but it’s always nice to support the locals in Cape Coast.)

Cape Coast Dungeon
You will be taken on a guided tour of this castle to explore its dungeons that held enslaved Africans up to 3 months prior to transfer across the Atlantic to the new world. From dark underground dungeons to the 'door of no return' observe and have a feel of the conditions the captives went through in this bastion.

Kakum National Park
Visitors here will get to hike up to the only canopy walkway in Africa and experience an adrenaline rush feeling on this adventure tour. Made up of seven bridges suspended on trees, take a walk across the canopy and get the sense achievement after embarking on this tour.

Elmina Castle
This Dungeon was built by the Portuguese in 1482 and believed to have been visited by Christopher Columbus en route to the New Worlds. It is the largest slave fort in the world. Take a guided tour to explore the various sections of this bastion known as the oldest European building in sub-Sahara Africa.
